International Day of Action for Rivers - 14 March


The International Day of Action for Rivers is observed to sensitize people about the importance of rivers. It aims to bring people across borders, together to discuss issues pertaining to river management, river pollution, river conservation etc at a global level.The day was earlier known as International Day against Dams, for Rivers, Water, and Life.  It is observed on March 14 every year. 

This year the thems of International Day of Action for Rivers is ‘Rights of Rivers’

History of International Day of Action for Rivers

The International Day of Action for Rivers ( formerlyl International Day against Dams, for Rivers, Water, and Life) was inspired and mandated by the participants of the First International Meeting of People Affected by Dams that took place in March, 1997 in Curitiba, Brazil.

2021:  ‘Rights of Rivers’
2020 :  “Women, Water, and Climate Change”.
